What are Telegram Stars
Telegram Stars are Telegram's in-app currency. They are used to purchase digital goods and services and to reward creators on Telegram. Users can purchase Stars via Google Play and the App Store and then are able to spend them on goods and services in mini apps.
How can I use Telegram Stars in TON Wallet
You can use Stars to pay TON blockchain fees when sending or swapping tokens.
Note: Telegram Stars can't be swapped in TON Wallet — they can only be used to pay TON blockchain fees.
On the send or swap screen, you’ll see an option to use Stars to pay the fee. If there aren’t enough Stars in your TON Wallet balance, you can top up right there without leaving the wallet.
To be used for fees, Stars must be located in your TON Wallet balance, not in your general Telegram balance.
To view your Star balance in TON Wallet:
Go to Settings (⋯) > TON Wallet > My Stars
In this section, you can:
- See your current Star balance.
- Top up or move Stars into TON Wallet as needed.
If the balance is empty, you can top it up in this section — the "Add" button will appear.
How to top up Telegram Stars in TON Wallet
You can purchase Telegram Stars in two ways:
- On the withdrawal or swap page, you will have the option to pay the blockchain fee with Stars. Tap the Stars icon, and TON Wallet will automatically redirect you to the purchase page. You can choose from packages of 500, 250, or 100 Stars. Stars can be purchased via Google Play and the App Store.
- Go to Settings by tapping the three dots in the top right corner > TON Wallet > My Stars. TON Wallet will automatically redirect you to the purchase page. You can choose from packages of 500, 250, or 100 Stars. Stars can be purchased through Google Play and the App Store.
I already have Telegram Stars — how do I top up my Star balance in TON Wallet
To top up your Star balance in TON Wallet, follow these steps:
- Go to Settings by tapping the three dots in the top right corner.
- Select TON Wallet > My Stars.
- TON Wallet will automatically redirect you to the top-up page.
- Choose the desired package: 100, 250 or 500 stars.
- If you already have enough Stars in your Telegram balance, the selected amount will be successfully transferred to TON Wallet.
- If your balance is insufficient, you will be automatically redirected to the Telegram Star purchase page.
How to choose TON as a payment method instead
If you see an error during a transfer or swap, it might mean Stars are selected as the fee payment method, but you don’t have enough Stars in your TON Wallet balance.
Before confirming the transaction, you can change the fee payment method:
- Tap the "Fee payment: Stars" line.
- Choose "TON" — the fee will be charged from your Toncoin balance.
💡 TON is always available as a fallback and is selected by default if there are no Stars.
Once the fee source is changed, the transaction will go through and the fee will be calculated in TON.
How many Stars do I need for withdrawal or swap fees
The cost in Stars depends on the current exchange rate in Toncoin (TON). Since Toncoin is a volatile asset, this can affect the network fee that you pay with Stars.
The exact number of Stars required for withdrawal or swap is displayed directly on the transaction page.
System says no Stars available during send or swap
If you try to pay the fee with Stars and get a message that no Stars are available, most likely your Stars are stored in your general Telegram balance, not in TON Wallet.
To use Stars in TON Wallet, you need to transfer them first. Here’s how:
- Go to ⋯ > Settings > TON Wallet > My Stars.
- Choose a package (e.g., 100, 250, or 500 Stars) — it must match your Telegram balance.
- Tap ‘Add’, then ‘Pay and Confirm’.
If you have fewer than 100 Stars (for example, 50), the transfer won’t work — the smallest package starts at 100 Stars.
Why is my Stars balance different in Telegram and TON Wallet
Your Star balance in Telegram and in TON Wallet differ because they are separate balances. In order to pay fees in Stars in TON Wallet, you need to transfer Stars from your balance in Telegram to your balance in TON Wallet.
To do this, select an available package based on your balance of Stars in Telegram. For example, if you have 150 Stars in Telegram, you would be able to select the 100 Star package to transfer 100 of your Stars in Telegram to your TON Wallet.
After selecting a package, tap "Add", then "Pay and Confirm". The system will automatically transfer Stars from your Telegram balance to your TON Wallet balance.
If your Telegram balance contains fewer Stars than the respective package amounts offered in TON Wallet (100, 250, 500), you will not be able to transfer your Stars from your Telegram balance to your TON Wallet balance. For example, if you have only 50 Stars in your Telegram account, it is not possible to transfer them to TON Wallet.
Can I refund Stars from my TON Wallet to my Telegram account
You can return Stars from your TON Wallet balance to your Telegram balance by contacting our support team. However, this is only possible if the Stars from the package have not been spent.
Refunds are available for packages of 100, 200, or 500 Stars. If Stars from a purchase have already been used to pay a transaction fee, then the purchase cannot be refunded, as the transaction is already recorded on the blockchain.
Please note: is it not possible to cancel a purchase of Stars, nor it is possible to refund the purchase to your original payment method. According to Telegram’s policies, such purchases are final and non-refundable, regardless of the payment method.
